Biografie dei Giocatori
Seat 1: Holger Kanisch, 26, Koblenz, Germany – 661,000
Young Holger Kanisch is studying economic science at the university of Wuppertal but admits he doesn’t spend much time on his studies but instead clocks up some five hours a day playing online poker. Known online as Tonding, EPT Dortmund is not Holger’s first major event; he also played the 2007 WSOP main event and qualified for APPT Macau through PokerStars. He said: “Normally I play Sit & Go’s with a buy-in from $50 to $200. “ For EPT Dortmund he bought in from his own bankroll: “It’s good enough to give it a try”, he told us. He hasn’t got special plans for the final table and just wants to come as “far as possible”. The player he is frightened of most is Team PokerStars Pro William Thorson. “He has position on me and is a very good and aggressive player.”
Seat 2: William Thorson, 25, Gothenberg, Sweden – Team PokerStars Pro 829,000
Economics graduate William is one of the most popular players on the EPT tour – everyone’s "favorite fisken". With his fearless attitude, he can terrify everyone at the table while still wearing a huge grin on his face. British veteran pro Willie Tann once joked that when he got old he wanted to be just like William. William has had some major EPT achievements and was bitterly disappointed to be eliminated in 6th place at last year’s EPT San Remo. He was also final table bubble at last year’s PCA and 3rd place at EPT3 Dublin. Outside of the PCA, William has also had some great results including 13th in the 2006 WSOP for $907,000. In 2007, he made the final table in the $5k Limit Hold’em event, winning $136,493. Online, William focuses on Omaha cash games but prefers tournaments when he plays live. William’s major non-poker interest is horse-trotting – and he and his father own several trotting horses back in Sweden. He plays online as ‘William’.
Seat 3: Cengizcan Ulusu, 38, Erfurt, Turkey – 537,000
Cengizcan Ulusu is a professional poker player who has been playing poker for more than 20 years. However he only started playing Texas Hold’em a year or so ago. He says EPT Dortmund is certainly his biggest tournament result to date. He bought himself into the event.
Seat 4: Johan Storakers, 37, Stockholm, Sweden – 1,615,000
At 37-years-old, Johan Storakers is something of a veteran on the international poker circuit –as evidenced by the fact that his results on the Hendon Mob database can be measured in inches and date back to 1996. The “Swedish Eagle” has had more than a dozen final table appearances in WSOP, WPT and other big buy-in events but, despite many attendances, has mysteriously failed to go super-deep at an EPT main event… although he did come third in a €300 side event at EPT4 Barcelona. The biggest win of Storaker’s career was the 2008 Aruba Classic when his 2nd place finish gained him $486,000 and brought his live tournament winnings to over $2.4 million.
Seat 5: Mike McDonald, 19, Waterloo, Canada – 746,000
Mike McDonald continues his dynamite poker career with yet another final table appearance. He was winner here in season 4 for a €933,600 payday and is the strongest contender yet for a record everyone has been dying to see broken – the EPT double title holder. Last year, still wearing braces on his teeth and only 19 years old, McDonald smashed through a super-strong field to win the event It was his fifth cash in five weeks and the biggest of his career. The fomer math student - known as ‘Timex’ online - also finished 14th at EPT4 Prague for €20,200.
Seat 6: Sandra Naujoks, 27, Dessau, Germany - ShootingStar - 586,000
Sandra initially studied German and History to become a high school teacher before pursuing careers as a graphic designer and model. She first started playing poker with friends in a private home game before going on to try online NLHE tournaments playing as "The Black Mamba". In 2008 she took the international poker scene by storm when she started playing live and almost immediately won the European Championship at the Casinos Austria Poker Tour – after crushing Team PokerStars Pro Alexander Kravchenko. She was then elected "Europe's Leading Lady" at the European Poker Awards in Paris. She has been a member of the prestigious PokerStars.de ShootingStar team since the PCA in January but the Dortmund final table is her first EPT success. Sandra loves to wear cowboy hats and smokes at least one Havana cigar a day. She also has a pet corn snake!
Seat 7: Luca Pagano, 30, Treviso, Italy – Team PokerStars Pro – 1,115,000
Even if he doesn’t win it, EPT Dortmund will always be a landmark event for Luca. Already the record-holder for most EPT cashes, he has made it a tenth time here in Germany - bringing his total EPT earnings to at least €500k. His last major EPT result was the Grand Final in Monte Carlo last year where he came 6th for €337,000. The former computer programming student kicked off his poker career using play money on PokerStars but soon progressed to real money and turned a modest deposit into a monster online bankroll. He is also hugely successful in live events, putting together a small fortune in winnings. Luca was elected EPT Player of the Year last September.
Seat 8: Marc Gork, 21, Chemnitz, Germany - 540,000
German literature and language student Marc has been playing poker for four years but says he’s not a professional, in fact he’s “not even half a pro”. Making the Dortmund final table is by far his best result to date and the best result before that being winning the Dortmund seat in a €300 re-buy satellite held at Casino Hohensyburg on Sunday. Prior to that, his biggest achievement was 14th palce – and $2,400 – in a PokerStars Sunday Second Chance tournament. He said: “This is my first EPT and getting this far is really like a dream. But it’s definitely made me want to play more events so I hope to come to San Remo as well.”
